A Little Bit of the Jeans History

Blue Jeans History
Blue jeans as we know them today do not have a creation date rather the have evolved over time. During the 1600’s historians believe the French made garments using wool-blended fabrics called “serge de Nimes”. Around the same time, Italians produced apparel from a fabric called “genes” Both were a natural indigo twill fabric. However, it was the India influence that put the two together. At some point in the 18th Century denim was produced using cotton fiber. These two elements (indigo for color and cotton twill for the fabric) made up the basic pants we know today, but it wasn’t until Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis hit upon the idea of putting metal rivets at the points of strain, such as on the pocket corners and at the base of the button fly that created what we now call jeans.
The start of it all.
>> "Waist overalls" was the traditional name for work pants, which is what the first jeans were called. However when Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss became business partners the formed what we know today as blue jeans. For more about Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis Visit Levi Strauss.com
